GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT TENNESSEE (PDF)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team will play travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to take on the fourth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers in a three-game series this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 1 p.m, (CT), Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
 
Samford and Tennessee will be meeting for the first time ever in baseball.
 
Samford enters the weekend with a record of 3-1. The Bulldogs opened the season by sweeping a series with Valparaiso and then dropped a 12-6 decision at Jacksonville State Tuesday.
 
Samford is scheduled to start left-handed pitcher Miller Riggins on the mound in game one, right-handed pitcher Cameron Keshock in the second game and right-hander Josh Leerssen in the series finale.
 
Samford has been led at the plate so far this season by Cade Carr, batting .429 (6-for-14) with a double, a home run and 10 RBI. Michael Gupton is also hitting .429 (6-for-14) with two doubles, a triple and six runs scored. Freshman Gus Gandy has five hits and has driven in four runs, while fellow freshman Jake Souders is second on the team with six RBI so far this season.
 
Fourth-ranked Tennessee comes into the weekend with a record of 4-0. The Volunteers opened the season by sweeping a three-game series with Hofstra. The team then earned a 29-4 midweek win over UNC Asheville.
 
Tennessee has been led at the plate by Levi Clark, who has driven in a team-high eight runs. Dean Curley leads the team with three home runs, while Dalton Bargo has two homers.
 
Tennessee has listed left-handed pitcher Liam Doyle as its starting pitcher on Friday. The Vols will start right-hander Marcus Phillips on Saturday and Tennessee has not announced a starter for Sunday's series finale.
