Baseball Drops Home Game To UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team dropped a 7-2 decision to cross-town rival UAB Tuesday night at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 19-9 on the season. UAB improves to 13-17 with the win.


 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Connor Burns and Ayrton Schafer had an RBI each for Samford.
  • Jordan Fucci, Anthony Mulrine and Preston Moore had one hit each for the Bulldogs.
  • Gene Hurst (1-2) pitched 1.2 innings, giving up three runs on three hits to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
  • Austin Triplett went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to lead UAB at the plate.
  • Carter Pharis went 2-for-5 with an RBI for the Blazers.
  • Austin Stump (1-0) pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief to earn the win for UAB.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • UAB scored a run in the first inning and two more in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
  • The Blazers added four runs in the fourth inning, with three coming off Triplett's home run to push UAB's lead to 7-0.
  • Samford scored one run in the seventh inning and another in the eighth to make the final score 7-2.
