KENNESAW, Ga. -- With the score tied 2-2 in a tight non-conference contest being held at Stillwell Stadium, the Kennesaw State Owls used a six-run bottom of the fifth inning Saturday to pull away from the Samford University baseball team en route to a 9-3 win.

Kennesaw State's fifth-inning rally was propelled by six hits, including a pair of two-run singles from Tyler Simon and Garrett Hodges. The
Owls (6-6) finished the contest with 15 hits.

Samford (5-6) struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Senior
Austin Edens reached base on an error and then advanced to second on a groundout. Next up, sophomore designated hitter
Ayrton Schafer roped a double down the left-field line to score Edens from second base.

Schafer later scored in the inning on a throwing error from Simon to give the Bulldogs their early 2-0 advantage.

Taylor Garris,
Brooks Carlson and
Mason Williamson all tallied base hits Saturday.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the second inning, Kennesaw State bounced back with two runs of its own to gain the momentum of the contest. The Owls then went on to score their six runs in the fifth frame.

Samford's
Stephen Jones (0-2) started the game and was issued the loss, while Kennesaw State's
Brooks Buckler (1-0) tallied his first win of the season.
