Monica Abbott Pitching Clinic Information Flier Get Acrobat Reader

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Samford softball will welcome USA Olympic pitcher Moinca Abbott as a host for the pitching clinic, taking place on Sunday, Jan. 22. Three different sessions for various age ranges will begin at 9 a.m. at Sport Center 280, located on 7010 Champion Blvd. in Birmingham, Ala. (35242).

The clinic will focus on the fundamentals of pitching, which includes correct mechanics, drills and game strategy. Instruction will be led by Abbott and assisted by Samford pitching coach Brandon Duncan. Athletes will have the opportunity to work with these two pitching greats as well as other members of the Bulldog softball staff.

*Participants should wear athletic shoes and must bring their own catcher. Athletes must register in advance, as no walk ups will be accepted.*

Abbott is a two-time World Champion (2006, 2010) and helped Team USA win the silver medal at the 2008 Olympics. She is a Pan American Gold Medalist (2007) and a three-time World Cup Champion. She won the Honda Award for Softball in 2007 in her senior season at the University of Tennessee after setting the NCAA Division-1 single-season strikeout record at 724. Her four-year career strikeout total of 2,440 is also an NCAA Division-I record. She was a First-Team FNCA All-American all four seasons with the Volunteers. She also holds NCAA D1 career records in appearances (253), victories (189) and shutouts (112). She was a three-time Women's College World Series All-Tournament selection and was named the 2007 USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year.
