BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about an hour and a half in shells Wednesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs are preparing for Saturday's Homecoming game against Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern.

The Bulldogs continued working on the game plan for Saturday's game. Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said he liked the way his team worked during Wednesday's practice.

"We had a good Wednesday practice," Sullivan said. "I thought they moved around pretty well and everybody was pretty sharp."

The Samford offense is led by junior running back Chris Evans. Evans is the only running back in Samford history to rush for over 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. Last season, Evans set a Samford record with 1,284 yards rushing.

In last week's game at The Citadel, Evans became just the second player in school history to rush for over 3,000 yards in a career. Evans now has 3,017 career rushing yards.

Sullivan said Evans contributes a lot more to the team than just his statistics.

"Chris has meant an awful lot to our team," Sullivan said. "First of all, Chris is a wonderful person. He is a true student-athlete who has earned everybody's respect. He has a great work ethic, nobody works harder on our team than Chris. He comes to work every day and he is the epitome of a team player. He's never one to ask for the ball, he just does his job."

Samford will practice again Thursday afternoon in shells. The practice is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. at Seibert Stadium.

Saturday's game against Georgia Southern is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
