Football Works On Georgia Southern Game Plan
Nov. 3, 2009
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford football team practiced for about an hour and a half in full pads Tuesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium. The Bulldogs began putting in the game plan for Saturday's Homecoming game against Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern. Samford enters the game with a record of 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs are looking to end a three-game losing streak and are coming off a 28-16 setback at The Citadel. Samford head coach Pat Sullivan said the team got off to a good start in its preparation for the Eagles. "I thought we had a good practice," Sullivan said. "It was a spirited practice. I thought we had a really good day." Georgia Southern is currently 4-4 overall and 3-2 in SoCon play. The Eagles took last week off after a 52-16 loss at Appalachian State on Oct. 24. "They're a good, young football team," Sullivan said of Georgia Southern. "You can see them grow as the year has gone on. One thing that really jumps out at you about them is their team speed. And, they're another football team who will come in here rested after a week off." Samford and Georgia Southern are meeting for the fifth time, with Georgia Southern holding a 3-1 advantage in the series. Samford won last season's meeting, 27-17, in Statesboro, Ga., on GSU's Homecoming. Samford will practice again Wednesday afternoon in shells. The practice is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. Saturday's game against Georgia Southern is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff from Seibert Stadium. The game can be heard locally on WVSU-FM 91.1, or worldwide on the internet at www.samford.edu/wvsu.
