Robert Evans Named TAAC Player of the Week

MACON, Ga. - Samford sophomore Robert Evans earned Trans America Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday following his performances on the diamond against Alabama A&M and Florida Atlantic last week.

Evans hit .429 for the week and posted a .714 slugging percentage and .900 fielding percentage. He was 6-for-14 from the plate, including a double and his fifth home run of the season. He also drove in three runs and scored five times in four starts. Additionally, he walked twice, recorded the team-leading sixth stolen base and pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

Against Alabama A&M on March 27, Evans went 2-for-4 with a RBI and scored twice. He also did the job on the mound, closing out the game for the Bulldogs by pitching two scoreless innings while allowing only one hit and striking out four, including the side in the ninth inning.

In the three-game series with FAU he went 4-for-10, including a late-inning home run that secured a 6-3 win. Additionally, he had a double and scored three runs and tallied two RBI.

Evans leads the Bulldogs in average (420), hits (37), doubles (9), home runs (5), RBI (18), runs scored (24) and stolen bases (6). He has also recorded 12 multiple-hit games and six multiple RBI games in 2001.
