TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Samford University baseball team was defeated, 10-1, at Alabama Tuesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
With the loss, Samford falls to 13-13 on the season. Alabama improves to 18-12 with the win.
For Samford at the plate,
Kaden Dreier went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Garrett Staton went 2-for-4 for the Bulldogs.
Will Lynch (0-2) pitched 2.2 innings in relief, giving up three runs on two hits to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
Alabama was led by William Hamiter, going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. Bryce Eblin went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Crimson Tide. Braylon Myers (1-0) tossed 1.1 innings, giving up one run on one hit to earn the win for Alabama.
Alabama took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Hamiter singled to center field to drive in Eblin for the game's first run. Drew Williamson later singled to center field to drive in Hamiter to make the score 2-0. Andrew Pinckney then singled to right field to drive in Williamson and Tommy Seidl for a 4-0 Alabama lead.
The Bulldogs plated their run in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 4-1. Dreier singled through the left side of the infield to drive in
Will David to bring Samford to within three runs.
The Crimson Tide tallied four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Zane Denton doubled down the right-field line to drive in Jim Jarvis for the inning's first run. Hamiter then hit a three-run home run to right-center field for an 8-1 Alabama lead.
Alabama added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Eblin singled to left field to drive in Will Portera for the first run of the inning. Caden Rose scored the game's final run on a sacrifice fly by Camden Hayslip for a 10-1 Alabama lead.
Samford will open Southern Conference play by hosting VMI in a three-game series this weekend. The teams are set to play Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
