SPARTANBURG, S.C.—Samford University led the Southern Conference, placing 67 student-athletes on the league's Spring Academic All-Conference team, released by the SoCon Monday morning.
Among Samford's spring sports, women's outdoor track and field placed 14 members on the team, while women's indoor track and field had 11 representatives on the squad. Softball had seven players on the squad, while baseball had six. Women's basketball and women's golf had five representatives each on the team.
Men's golf, men's indoor track and field and men's outdoor track and field placed four members apiece on the squad. Men's tennis and women's tennis had three student-athletes each on the team, while men's basketball had one.
For the conference as a whole, the league's 10 women's outdoor track and field programs led the way with 59 Academic All-Conference selections, while the eight men's lacrosse programs and nine baseball programs each produced 50 selections.
Samford's 67 student-athletes on the team posted an average grade-point average of 3.65.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the spring semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
