BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Samford University has hired Ronnie Letson as an assistant football coach, head coach
Pat Sullivan announced Wednesday.
"We feel very fortunate to be able to hire someone the caliber of Coach Ronnie Letson," Sullivan said. "Not only is he an outstanding coach, he's an outstanding person. He will add a lot to our football, without question, but I think he brings so much to the table as a person and as a recruiter. He'll fit right in with our staff and with our players."
While at Samford, Letson will coach the Bulldogs' wide receivers.
Letson comes to Samford from the University of Alabama, where he served as an offensive analyst in 2013. While at Alabama, he assisted the team's offensive coordinator with the quarterbacks.
He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Jacksonville State University from 2004 to 2012. While at JSU, Letson was in charge of the offensive play-calling and developing the team's offensive game plan.
In his time as offensive coordinator at Jacksonville State, Letson coached 31 All-Conference players and six All-Americans for the Gamecocks.
From 2003 to 2004, Letson was an offensive and defensive graduate assistant at Ole Miss. At Ole Miss, Letson assisted with developing and scripting the offensive game plan, and with coordinating and scripting the offense and special teams.
Letson coached the wide receivers at Presbyterian College from 2002 to 2003. In addition to coaching the receivers at Presbyterian, Letson assisted with the development of the team's offensive game plan.
Letson started his coaching career as the wide receivers coach at Jacksonville State from 2000 to 2002.
Letson is a 1999 graduate of the University of Mississippi with a degree in business administration. He and his wife, Vanessa, have two sons, Tripp and Eli.
