FABIAN TRUSS INTERVIEW
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Samford football players worked out for scouts from 24 different NFL teams and one CFL team at the program's annual Pro Day Thursday morning at Seibert Stadium.

Kelsey Pope and Riley Hawkins, linebacker
Justin Shade, defensive back
Tae Lewis and defensive lineman
Jeremy Towns all performed for the scouts.
"Overall, I think I did pretty well," Truss said. "I feel like I ran pretty well and did great in the shuttle drill. I caught the balls well, and I was able to show them I can run coming off an MCL sprain."
Truss was impressive, running the 40-yard dash in an unofficial time of 4.47 seconds. Towns, unofficially, completed 30 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Pope also impressed with his overall athleticism and ball-catching skills.
Shade, who played linebacker at Samford, worked out as both an offensive and defensive player for the scouts. He said he felt good about how the workout went for him.
"I came out and did some fullback and running back, as well as some linebacker drills," Shade said. "I felt like it went pretty well. I feel like I'm a guy who can move from sideline to sideline, so I think my game can translate pretty well (to the next level)."
The 2013 NFL Draft will take place May 8-10. The event will be televised live on the NFL Network. Samford will be hoping to have a player drafted for the third-straight year. In 2012, Corey White was taken in the fifth round by the New Orleans Saints. Last year, Nicholas Williams was taken in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
