BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Samford student-athletes posted impressive scores in the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) Report, released by the NCAA Tuesday afternoon.
Samford's teams averaged an impressive 97.4 percent in the report. The Bulldogs' men's basketball, men's golf, men's tennis, women's cross country/track and field, women's golf, soccer, softball, women's tennis and volleyball teams had perfect 100 percent scores.
"Our student-athletes continue to excel in balancing the demands of both academics and athletics," Samford Director of Athletics
Martin Newton said. "I'm proud that our student-athletes continue to put academics as their top priority while understanding the important role that athletics plays in serving the university, our alums and the surrounding community. In the ever changing landscape of college athletics, one thing must not be forgotten…we are here to educate first and foremost."
The Graduation Rates Report provides information about two groups of students at each institution: (1) all undergraduate students who were enrolled in a full-time program of studies for a degree and (2) student-athletes who received athletics aid from the college or university for any period of time during their entering year.
The report gives graduation information about students and student-athletes entering in 2007. This is the most recent graduating class for which the required six years of information is available.
The report provides information about student-athletes who received athletics aid in one or more of eight sports categories: football, men's basketball, baseball, men's track/cross country, men's other sports and mixed sports, women's basketball, women's track/cross country and other women's sports.
