BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- After going 2-1 this past weekend and throwing her first career no-hitter, Samford's
Shelby Scott was named the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the SoCon office Monday.
Scott went 2-1 in three starts over the weekend series against Elon, throwing 14.1 innings with only five hits and two earned runs allowed. The sophomore earned her third win of the season in game one Saturday, throwing a five-inning no hitter as the Samford offense exploded in a 10-0 shutout win over Elon. After taking a 2-0 loss in game two, Scott bounced back for another strong effort in game three on Sunday, allowing only one hit over 7.0 innings to shut out Elon, 3-0, and secure the series win over the Phoenix.
Saturday's no-hitter is the first of Scott's young Bulldog career and is the second so far this season Samford. Sophomore
Mollie Hanson threw a no-hitter on March 10 at UNCG in a 5-0 win, and the last no-hitter at Samford prior to that was way back on April 21, 2006. Besides Sarah Purvis' perfect game for Georgia Southern on Feb. 15, Hanson and Scott are the only other two SoCon pitchers this season to throw a no-hitter.
This weekend, Scott and the rest of the Bulldogs will head to Tennessee for a three-game road series against the Chattanooga Mocs. A doubleheader on Saturday, April 27 is set for a 1 p.m. ET start and the series will conclude with a single game on Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m.
