SPARTANBURG, S.C.—Samford senior guard
Jazmine Martin was named to the Southern Conference's All-Conference team by both the coaches and media, when the league's postseason women's basketball awards were released on Wednesday.
Martin, a native of Hoover, Ala., was named to the 10-member All-Conference team by the league's coaches, and she was named second-team All-Conference by the Southern Conference Sports Media Association (SCSMA).
In the coaches' voting, Davidson's Sophia Aleksandravicius was tabbed the Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, both for the second-consecutive season. Furman guard Holli Wilkins was named Freshman of the Year, while Chattanooga's Wes Moore was named the Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches. Mariah Masalin of Wofford won the Ann Lashley Inspiration Award.
The SCSMA also named Aleksandravicius as its Player of the Year and Moore as its Coach of the Year. UNCG's Lucy Mason was named the Freshman of the Year by the media.
As a senior, Martin led Samford in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game. Martin ranks fifth in the SoCon in three-pointers made per game (1.6) and 10
th in the league in three-point field goal percentage (.308).
For her career, Martin has scored 591 points, dished out 78 assists and grabbed 181 rebounds. This season, she has led Samford in scoring in 11 times, and she scored over 20 points three times. Martin scored a career-high 31 points against SoCon regular-season champion Chattanooga on Jan. 23.
On the coaches All-Conference team, Martin and Aleksandravicius were joined by Ashlen Dewart (Chattanooga), Kayla Christopher (Chattanooga), Taylor Hall (Chattanooga), Laura Murray (Davidson), Anna Freeman (App. State), Maryah Sydnor (App. State), Ali Ford (Elon) and Kelsey Evans (Elon).
Wilkins was joined on the coaches All-Freshman team by Mason, Chattanooga's Tatianna Jackson, Western Carolina's Lindsay Simpson and Davidson's Dakota Dukes.
Along with Aleksandravicius, Freeman, Ford, Christopher and Dewart were named first-team All-Conference by the media.
Martin was joined on the second team by Sydnor, Murray, Evans and Daniella Motley of Wofford.
Mason was joined on the media's All-Freshman team by Dukes, Wilkins, Jackson and Simpson.
Martin and the Bulldogs will open play in the Southern Conference Tournament on Friday when sixth-seeded Samford takes on 11
th-seeded Wofford. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. (CT) start from UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena.
