Irby Sweeps Weekly SoCon Baseball Awards

C.K. Irby was named the SoCon's Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
SPARTANBURG, S.C.—Samford junior pitcher and designated hitter C.K. Irby was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week and Pitcher of Week, sweeping the league's weekly awards on Monday.
 
Irby is the first player in SoCon history to win both the Player and Pitcher of the Week awards in the same week.
 
On the mound, Irby pitched a complete game in Friday night's 9-1 win at Furman. He tied a school record with 16 strikeouts, while allowing no walks. He gave up just three hits and held Paladin batters to a .103 average.
 
At the plate, Irby hit .562 in four games last week. He had a triple, two home runs and six RBI for the week. In Samford's three-game Southern Conference sweep at Furman, Irby batted .615 (8-for-13) with a triple, a home run and five RBI. He also had one home run in the Bulldogs' midweek contest against Alabama.
 
For the season, Irby has a record of 4-2 and an ERA of 3.89. He leads the team with 46 strikeouts, compared to just 11 walks. Irby has held opposing batters to just a .201 average so far this season.
 
Offensively, Irby leads the team with a .398 average so far this season. He also leads the team in hits with 37, doubles with seven, triples with two and RBI with 29. Irby is tied for second on the team in home runs with five.
 
This marks the second time this season Irby has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week, as he earned the honor on March 4. The Player of the Week honor is the first of the season for Irby.
 
Irby and the Bulldogs will next be in action on Friday, March 29, when they play host to the College of Charleston in the first game of a three-game SoCon series. Friday's series-opener is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
