Samford Wraps Up Day One at the Alabama Relays

DAY ONE RESULTS

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ---- Samford Track and Field completed action on day one of the Alabama Relays Friday with some top-ten finishes, including two relay races.
 
Samford ran in a pair of unique relay races, running an 800-meter relay and a sprint medley relay.  The men's and women's 800-meter relay teams both finished sixth, with the group of Ashley Cope, Christian McGuire Julie McDonald and Kimberly Ruch running 1:43.68 and Steven Bastien, Ben Davies, Cody Russell and Brandon Bassett running 1:30.17.
 
In the sprint medley relay, the men's team of Justin Emerson, Zachary Randall, Jonathon Bush and Henry Stevens-Carty finished fifth in 3:34.16 while the women's team of Ruch, Leslie Graf, Danielle Blanco and Katelyn Brock finished sixth in 4:09.38.
 
In addition to running in the sprint medley, Blanco finished as the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:01.70.  Emerson also earned a top-five finish on the track, placing third in the men's 100-meter dash (10.90).  Lauren D'Alessio almost matched her personal best in the 1,500 meters, finishing seventh in 4:35.86, just three seconds shy of her best mark of 4:32.53.
 
In the field events, Chenelle Terry placed fifth in the women's high jump, clearing 5-5 (1.65m) on her first attempt.  Over half of the 27 competitors in the event failed to clear the opening height of 5-3 (1.60m).  Defending SoCon outdoor pole vault champion Owen Wagoner placed fifth in Friday's competition (16-0.75, 4.90m) with 2013 SoCon indoor pole vault champion Ryan Cook in eighth (15-7, 4.75m).
