Bulldog Field
Samford University's Bulldog Field was named the Sports Turf Managers Association Softball Field of the Year at the association's annual convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, Jan. 16, 2002. The Sports Turf Managers Association grades playing fields for baseball, softball, football and soccer. It gives an annual award for each sport based on the field's playability, appearance of playing surface, organization of maintenance program, uses of facility that impact playing surface and innovative solutions to playing surface problems. Joe Collins, Samford's sports turf manager, does a great job maintaining the field and keeping it in outstanding shape. The Sports Turf Managers Association has given this award for 13 years. Past winners of this award include Illinois State's Redbird Softball Complex and the University of California's softball field. Future plans call for expanded seating and support facilities at the 300-seat stadium.
